Garbage Bin tagging underway in Quesnel and Williams Lake

WildSafeBC is doing weekly garbage tagging in Williams Lake and Quesnel.

The Cariboo Regional District says fall is the time when bears increase their feeding activity to prepare for winter and all communities are noticing increased activity. Garbage bins that are placed on the curb the night before pickup will be tagged, as garbage is the number one attractant for black bears. These targeted bins will be marked with a bright yellow sticker serving as a warning to residents that their garbage is an attractant.

WildSafeBC hopes to prevent human-wildlife conflict in the Cariboo Regional District by warning residents and educating the public about attractant management through initiatives such as garbage tagging.

Funding for this project is being provided by the Cariboo Regional District, City of Quesnel, the City of Williams Lake, District of 100 Mile House, the British Columbia Conservation Foundation, and the Province of BC.
