Burgess Creek Wildfire Now Listed as Being Held

The status of the Burgess Creek Wildfire, approximately 20 kilometres East of Alexandria, 45 kilometres Southeast of Quesnel and 50 kilometres North of Williams Lake, has changed.

Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre, Jeromy Corrigan, said it changed from out of control to being held.

He said BC Wildfire Service crews were on site throughout the weekend working on containing the perimeter of the 1800 hectare fire.

“The recent precipitation and cooler temperatures have helped in decreasing the fire behaviour and limiting it’s growth. BC Wildfire crews will now be focusing on hot spots within the perimeter of the fire. There continues to be roughly 125 BC Wildfire Service firefighters on the fire as well as local contract firefighter crews.”

Earlier this morning (Monday) at 10:30 the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre lifted the Evacuation Alert for the Burgess Creek area.

The Alert was issued on April 21st affecting 6 parcels and covering 3,283 hectares.
