Temperatures are set to reach double digits in the Cariboo.
Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures as high as 17 degrees Thursday in Williams Lake, Quesnel, and 100 Mile House.
“I suppose it’s slightly unusual in that the strength of the ridge of high air pressure that’s coming for especially the middle to latter part of the week is going to be quite intense,” said Matt Loney, a meteorologist at the Pacific Storm Prediction Centre in Vancouver.
“So we are looking for warm air to be gradually flooding the province from the south to southwest.”
Loney said that is going to create sunny skies with temperatures on the climb.
“Especially by it looks like Wednesday late into the week by Friday, the potential is there to break some of the temperature records that have been in place since a number of years ago,” he said.
“In particular I’m looking at perhaps Thursday into Friday when temperatures are going to be hitting around seventeen into the high teens.”
Loney said the normal high for this time of year is around 10 degrees.
“We do see a trough coming in for the latter of the part of the week and into the weekend for at least the Coast, and how far it gets into the Interior and how quickly there’s still some uncertainty with that,” he said.
“For now we’ll say that temperatures are probably edging back towards the normal mark into next weekend but still quite a bit of uncertainty as to how quickly that’s going to occur.”
