Runners in Peace & Dignity Journeys Depart Williams Lake

A group of spiritual runners from Alaska left Williams Lake Wednesday morning to continue their peace and dignity journey to Panama.

Runner Andres Mendoza from Los Angeles says the concept for the run which occurs every four years, began in the 1990’s following an indigenous gathering in Ecuador.

Mendoza says when they come together, finally standing and flying side by side, there will be peace on the continent.

He adds that  it was in 1992 when the United States was going to celebrate 500 years of the discovery of the Americas, that everything came together marking the first run each of which has been for different things with the overlying message of peace and dignity within one’s self.

Joining the runners who departed from the Long House at 10 am, was Qeqmetkwe (meaning peaceful water) who says when you control the food you control the people.

The runners who invite people of all ethnicity to join them, hope to reach Panama in early August.
