Williams Lake Fire Department Responded To 8 Calls For Service This Weekend

It was a busy weekend for the Williams Lake Fire Department.

Fire Chief Evan Dean says they received a total of eight calls for service from Friday (March 22) afternoon until Sunday (March 24) evening.

He says crews responded to four wild land fire calls, two dumpster fires, an alarm call, and one structure fire call on Mackenzie Avenue North which is currently under investigation by RCMP.

Dean says last year was another record setting year for the Williams Lake Fire Department, and this year is shaping up to be a rough one.

Since January first Williams Lake Fire Department received 132 calls for service, that’s an additional 60 calls compared to the same period last year.

Dean says the department is on pace for 572 calls for service, a twenty-five percent increase over the last year and a 120 percent increase over the last 8-years.

Dean says as we go into what is anticipated to be a very dry spring and summer everyone is reminded to use an abundance of caution.
