Deka Lake Volunteer Fire Department nearing its Annual Ice Fishing Derby event

The Deka Lake Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their Annual Ice Fishing Derby and Raffle.

The event has been going on since the 80’s when the department was first formed, and will have three categories for participants to compete in, which include kokanee, rainbow trout, and lake trout/burbot.

Assistant Chief, Tom Nash says this will help support the department’s projects for this year.

“Right now, we’re working on things like a helicopter pad in the back of our property at Deka Lake, and improving services within the hall renovating a space to be rehab and medical for our firefighters, as well as some other renovations.”

Nash says kids 16 and under can also participate in their own category for the derby, and will have prizes for the top three catches.

The Derby will be on February 17th, with weigh-ins from 6:30am until 2:30pm, and will be located at Deka Lake.

Tickets for the derby can be found at Lone Butte Sporting Goods, Screamin’ Reel in 100 Mile House, Interlakes Canco, and on the department’s Facebook page.
