Organ donation registration expands with Service BC

Supporting organ donation has gotten easier with a new partnership between BC Transplant and the 61 Service BC locations throughout the province.

Peggy John with BC Transplant, says the partnership builds on last year’s successful pilot program held at four service BC Offices, including Quesnel.

“About 95% of British Columbians support organ donation, but only about 20% have actually registered their decision.”

“We did a trial, a pilot program in the fall, and tested what would happen if we trained the Service BC staff and gave them the materials and had them ask the question.”

“The results of the pilot were so good, that the government supported moving forward.”

465 British Columbians are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant.

A single donor can save up to eight lives.
