April a drier and slightly colder month for the Cariboo region

Drier precipitation in April for Williams Lake, with Quesnel also seeing below average temperatures.

Quesnel reached a mean temperature of 5.4 degrees, normally being 6.4, and Williams Lake reaching 4.8 degree, with the normal at 4.9.

Meteorologist, Brian Proctor says Williams Lake saw one of it’s driest months.

“Looking at Williams Lake, precipitation was at 10.8 millimetres fell, normally we would see about 22.2 millimetres, so about 48 per cent of normal and it’s about the 13th driest in the period of record.” says Proctor.

“Our records for Williams Lake only go back to 1961, so we have a much longer period of record for Quesnel.”

The record period for Quesnel goes as far back as 1893 and had the 34th driest month on record, only seeing 13.6 millimetres fall, with the normal being 24.5 making it a 56 per cent difference.

As for May, Proctor says precipitation will be spotty for the start of the month, which he says is more of a typical pattern.
