BC Wildfire Service tackling a wildfire south of Alexis Creek

BC Wildfire Service is taking on a wildfire discovered yesterday afternoon south of Alexis Creek.

The fire, which is 70 kilometres west of Williams Lake just off highway 20, saw significant growth overnight, going from low double digits to the hundreds.

Fire Information Officer, Jeromy Corrigan talks about the status of the wildfire.

“As of Saturday morning, the wildfire is estimated to be just over 100 hectares in size, and the status of the wildfire does remain out of control.” says Corrigan.

“Crews continue to work to limit the growth of the wildfire, with crews on the ground with heavy equipment and air support.”

Corrigan added that the current weather is favourable for the most part, but the winds are making it a bit challenging for crews.

More information on the wildfires in the Cariboo and across the province can be found on BC Wildfire Service’s website here.
