Summer is quickly winding down and so is a traditional Summer event in the Lake City.
This years edition of Art Walk is half over and scheduled to end September 9.
Executive Director of Downtown Williams Lake BIA, Sherry Yonkman, said it’s an extra long Art Walk this year just the way that they calendar fell so its four and a half instead of three and a half weeks.
“We have 26 locations with 26 artists or pairs or collectives at each business. The feedback from the businesses is that they had a lot of people coming in and looking at the art. The feedback from the people doing the Art Walk is that the art is amazing and the businesses are so friendly and helpful and it’s just really gone well this year.”
Yonkman said this is a great way to bring businesses and artisans together to showcase what they’re all about.
“For a new business it brings people in that might not have ever been in there before. It lets people see them that maybe didn’t know they were there. Introducing someone to a new business is always a good thing to do. We have some businesses that have been involved in Art Walk for years, and years, and years, and we appreciated that too. For the artists its about exposure. The people who go around for Art Walk are maybe not the people that would go to an art show at a gallery but they might go to Art Walk every Summer to see all the different artists.”
Yonkman noted that this years grand prize draw is for $500 towards your favourite artist participating in Art Walk this year plus there are six $50 gift certificates to your favourite participating business this year.
“The guide books are going out at a good rate. I think I only have 25 left here at the BIA, I go out to the businesses and restock them, so as of yesterdays (August 26) restock I had 25 books left here out of the
original 800 so that part is going really well.”
