It’s Pride Week in the Lake City

A special flag raising ceremony was held today (Monday) at Williams Lake City Hall to kick off Pride Week.

President of the Williams Lake Pride Society Douglas Swan said he was extremely grateful to see the support the City is showing to our community and to all other communities in the area as inclusivity and representation is important for everyone.

Swan said for the most part being accepted by the community has been fairly good.

“I’ve had the few encounters but for the most part I tried to meet it with compassion and understanding. Not everyone is exposed to different people and I think it’s important we take the time to teach rather than to dictate.”

He said the community is more than welcome to come out this Saturday to Boitanio Park as the Society will be there to answer any questions and help build a better future for everyone.

“We were quite welcomed by the City to put on the festivities. We’ve had a great showing of support for vendors and booths and we hope to see the community come out and join us.”
