Four Williams Lake non-profit youth organizations benefited from safe ride donations collected during this past year’s Operation Red Nose Campaign.
Organizer Deborah Pickering said the total was divided between the Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics Association, Williams Lake Hockey U18 Girls Rep Team, Camp Likely and Cariboo Chilcotin Youth Fiddlers.
“These groups provided us with volunteers who drive everybody home during the Holiday Season. They shared $13,055. That was for giving out 297 safe rides home. The groups are always happy to receive that cheque at the end. Operation Red Nose doesn’t do it for the money but the money we do receive from donations goes a long way to helping those youth groups with whatever they need.”
We asked Pickering how last year compared to the 2022 campaign.
“Pretty much on par in every way. The number of rides was pretty close to the same and the amount of donations was just about the same. I’m happy with the way it turned out and as always it’s such a pleasure and an honour to work with so many amazing on all those nine nights that we are out there.”
Pickering said in addition to getting Operation Red Nose organized again in August, she’ll also be knocking on doors asking companies or organizations if they would like to be a sponsor this year.
