District of 100 Mile House preserving 100 Mile Lodge

The District of 100 Mile House announced their efforts in the preservation of the historic 100 Mile Lodge.

First steps towards preservation will begin this month, along with the demolition of the Valley Room (98 B Cecil Place) due to remediation and associated costs to bring the building up to code.

Mayor Maureen Pinkney says they need to continue an important piece of the community.

“The lodge is the only public historical building we have in 100 Mile.” says Pinkney.

“We really hope to be able to fix up the floor in it, it’s the understructure that needs work, and then we’re going to use it for our museum and 100 Mile doesn’t have a museum right now.”

Pinkney added that the first floor will be a walkable through the old rooms, and dinning room from the gold rush trail days.

The remaining floors won’t be open to the public, but will be a place to archive their stuff.

As to when Pinkney hopes to have this open, she says as soon as possible is best, but they still need to get grant money to make it happen.

She says she doesn’t want to use taxpayer money to get the project done.

As for the demolition of the Valley Room, damage was done from flooding and other repairs needed that would cost as much as to build a new one.
