Williams Lake could see Sunday service implemented for transit

Residents in Williams Lake can look forward to transit service running on Sundays.

It was announced during Tuesday’s City Council meeting that they would enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with BC Transit to introduce the service in April of next year.

Government Relations Manager with BC Transit, Lindsay Taylor says transit running on a Sunday isn’t common for rural communities.

“There are a number of rural communities that don’t have Sunday service.”

“Typically that’s the service improvement that we first implement to expand the service beyond the base level service that you see there today.”

Taylor added that the addition would enable community members to get to work, run errands, as well as bring community connection and opportunities to socialize.

Sunday transit could run a bit different from weekday times, and she compares it to Saturday, saying it does have lower service levels, with Sundays having lower ridership.

That would mean that transit doesn’t run as late or as often compared to Saturday.

In terms of impacts to the current schedule, Taylor says the buses weren’t running on time, so they’ll be adding extra hours to the schedule to maintain the service levels that they have today.
