15 discharged from hospital following bus crash south of Mackenzie

Northern Health has confirmed 15 patients have been treated and discharged from hospital following yesterday’s (Wednesday) 9:10 a.m. bus crash on Highway 39, four kilometres south of Mackenzie.

BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) said police were called about the single-vehicle collision, finding a northbound white shuttle bus in a ditch, carrying 20 passengers with various injuries.

Six ambulances and six air ambulances were also called in to assist.

Five people remain in hospital in either serious condition or serious but stable condition.

Both the Mackenzie and District Hospital and the University Hospital of Northern B.C. were put on Code Orange, which was declared over at 3:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., respectively.

The highway, which remained closed while emergency crews were on scene, reopened at around 5:00 p.m.

BCHP asks anyone who saw the bus in the minutes before the collision, or has dash cam footage, to call BC Highway Patrol – Prince George at 250-649-4004 and quote file (3100) 2026-956.
