Williams Lake Stampeders Are Focused And Ready To Claim The Coy Cup

After narrowly losing to the Terrace River Kings in the CIHL best of three Final the Williams Lake Stampeders are focused on winning another Trophy.

Starting Tuesday, March 26, the Quest for the Coy Cup starts that will see the Stamps taking on the Penticton Silver Bullets, the host team Powell River Regals, and hooking up once again with Terrace.

Head Coach Derrick Walters said he’ll be taking the same squad he’s had all year to the west coast which will be a long trip for the club.

“The plan is to leave Williams Lake pretty early around five-thirty, six am on Monday. We’ll head all the way to Powell River so we’ll make the ferries at four o’clock. We’ll have a practice that night, then we’ll play game one against Penticton on Tuesday (March 26), from there we’ll have a game against Terrace, a nice little rematch for us, then a game against Powell River.”

Being a former Stampeder himself, Walters did play in a Coy Cup in 2014 when it was hosted in Williams Lake.

“Again we came up short in the League Final that year losing to Smithers but we were able to win the Coy Cup on home ice. That was my rookie year in the league and a huge experience for me.” Walters said, “I’m looking forward to be going back this time on the coaching side and looking forward to it as well for guys who have all bought in to what we’re doing.”

Game one for the Williams Lake Stampeders will be played Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 against the Penticton Silver Bullets who play in an Independent League.
