Prescribed burn reminder within City of Williams Lake

Prescribed burns are still set to take place in Williams Lake, beginning as early as today.

BC Wildfire Service in collaboration with the City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake First Nation, will be conducting two prescribed burns, covering a combined 10 hectares.

Communications Assistant, Jeromy Corrigan says a low intensity surface fire will be lit in pre-established boundaries to burn combustible materials.

“BC Wildfire Service staff will be working with members of the Williams Lake Fire Department to prepare, control, and monitor the fires at all times.” says Corrigan.

“Smoke and flames will be visible in the city of Williams Lake and surrounding area.”

The burns will be at Stampede Park Grounds, Hillside Park located behind Lake City Secondary and the Gibbon Street park located near the water reservoir on Western avenue.

The burning will end by March 21st, until then traffic control will be on site to ensure the safety of public and firefighters, and fires will be extinguished at the end of the day.

More information on the prescribed burn can be found on BC Wildfire Service’s website here.
