Williams Lake Mayor presented Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Pin

Williams Lake Mayor Surinderpal Rathor received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Pin.

The presentation took place at 10:00am at City Hall yesterday (February 23), where Cariboo – Prince George MP, Todd Doherty gave a speech, and awarded Rathor with the pin.

Doherty gave his praise to the work Rathor has done over the years.

“All you have to do is just think about the work that he’s done.” says Doherty.

“He landed here in Williams Lake in 1974 I believe, and as I said in my speech, my first recollection was 1980 I think, 1981, where he was already doing community work trying to make our community a better place.”

Doherty added that Rathor had put tens of thousands of hours into volunteering for the community, and is always the first person to put his hand up to volunteer.

After receiving the pin, Rathor gave his thanks to City staff, and the community, adding that it’s the citizens that do everything.

“It’s a great honour, getting recognized. I’m very delighted to see somebody’s recognizing my work.” says Rathor.

“It’s a great honour to be recognized by the senior levels of government.”

He added that it’s important to volunteer, and to check in on neighbours.
