Help for aboriginal women and children who are fleeing abuse.
Cariboo North Liberal MLA Coralee Oakes says that is the focus of $10,000 from the provincial government to the Amata Transition House in Quesnel.
Oakes says the money can be used for a variety of things such as transportation to a transition house or safe home or to a doctor’s appointment or lawyer meeting or to fly a high-risk client out of the community.
Oakes says other possibilities are for things that most of us take for granted…
“Another example is clothing and personal items you know if a woman and child had to leave their home quickly…A reminder to the entire community of Quesnel that if you have extra clothing or a little bit of extra time this is a great organization to be supporting.”
The Chiwid Transition House in Williams Lake received $25,000 from the provincial government to also help support Aboriginal women and children who are affected by domestic violence.
