Trailer and wildland fire fought by Williams Lake Fire Department

The Williams Lake Fire Department was on scene of a vehicle fire.

Just after 5 o’clock yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon Assistant Fire Chief Cory Boyd said they were dispatched to the incident just outside City limits on Dixon Road.

While on route Boyd said they were updated that it was a trailer and had possibly grown into an interface wildland fire.

“Upon arrival it was confirmed to be a fully involved motorhome which started a grass fire approximately 25 by 50 feet. The first responding engine was able to quickly contain that and start to knock down the motorhome,” Boyd said.

Once extinguished the wildland area was searched and some fire spotting was found hundreds of feet into the adjacent forest where a crew soaked the area.

“BC Wildfire was notified while we were on route and updated once the fire was under control.”

Boyd said the property owner was working on the motorhome when the fire started and it’s cause is undetermined.

2 duty officer trucks, 3 engines and 1 tender responded along with 21 firefighters.
