Quesnel Fire Department responds to wildland fire in South Hills

The Quesnel Fire Department raced up the hill to put out a wildland fire in South Hills in the evening of Tuesday, September 1.

Fire Chief Ron Richert says the department received the call at around 6:30 p.m. about a fire in a wooded area on Pederson Road in South Quesnel.

“When we arrived, we had open flames in a fairly secluded area behind the homes,” Richert says. “Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames and contain the fire and do a thorough mop-up of the area.”

No properties were damaged from the blaze, as according to Richert, the fire was a ways from the homes.

Richert added that there were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

The Quesnel Fire Department responded to the call with two vehicles and six firefighters.
