Community invited to enjoy an annual Boys & Girls Club Williams Lake event

An annual Summer wind down event will be taking place tomorrow (August 26) in the Lake City.

Williams Lake Boys and Girls Club invites everyone to come out to this family friendly Street Party that will get underway at 5 on South Fourth Avenue at their clubhouse.

Director Krista Harvey said every year it brings the whole community together.

“It’s for all ages. Community agencies will have tables set up with information and we also have some vendors coming out this year as well. We have a water fight with First Responders that is probably the highlight of this event. Over the years it has progressed from just RCMP against the kids to all First Responders.”

Harvey noted that the Street Party has been held for about 24 years in some kind of capacity.

“I think the original Street Party was kind of an event that started out small and has now progressed to something much larger. We completely block off Fourth Avenue North to Fresh Co’s alley and the Laundry Mat this year has been so kind to give more space so we’ll be using their parking lot and we do our complete alley as well. We get about an average of 500 people coming to take part in all the fun.”

Harvey said as part of the festivities they have a free barbecue which they received some generous donations to put it on again this year.

“Gibraltar Mines was one of the donors which was so amazing and will be so helpful for our barbecue. And every year Cariboo GM donates the hotdogs for the Street Party so between both those amazing companies we’ll be set for sure.”

Harvey added that this event is a chance for the community to come and have some fun, some laughs, and to get to know Boys and Girls Club Williams Lake.

“We as a staff really enjoy it, it’s probably our favourite thing other than our haunted house. Our focus for the Street Party is to bring the community together and celebrating the end of Summer, which is unfortunate, and going back to school. It’s kind of like a last hurrah before getting back to Fall.”
