Once again a community rally will be held in the South Cariboo to show their support for healthcare workers.
Residents are invited to gather at 5:30 this (July 23) afternoon on the sidewalk outside the 100 Mile House District General Hospital.
Patricia Thom said they have about a 35 percent population of 65-plus residents in the area and these people are really feeling the strain.
“When they’re routinely being shipped off to Kamloops or Williams Lake and feeling like they don’t have reliable care here in their own community and quite frankly really don’t know what to do about that.”
Thom noted that they had a rally back in April around 3 o’clock and some of the feedback they got was people were busy picking up kids from school, some people were still at work.
“So having it at 5:30 people would be off work and this would make it more accessible to a wider range.”
Thom said they are not affiliated with any now nor have they have ever been with any political agenda or group.
“We love our Hospital, we love our healthcare professionals, they do an amazing job here. But they need help. There needs to be more staff, recruitment and retention has to be a priority here. One of the things I hear a lot of is this kind of hopelessness that there’s nothing we can do. We are victims of the system and we’re just little people but I want people to now that together we’re stronger. Together we have a bigger voice and we just need to stay the course here. And again just wanting Hospital staff, Doctors, to know that this is not in protest at all, this is supporting them.”
Thom added first and foremost be respectful, bring your sign, make it positive, and lets just come together and have our voice be heard.
