A pair of South Cariboo residents got holes burned in their wallets playing with fire.
After defying a total campfire and burn ban across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre, 100 Mile House RCMP ticketed two individuals with over $1,000 each in fines.
Sergeant Brian Lamb says one individual in the Bridge Lake area was dealt two burning fines.
“The RCMP got a report from the Interlakes Fire Department of an unattended fire on July 31,” said Lamb. “Firefighters advised that the property owner was uncooperative and belligerent during their response. Police attended the property and determined that two separate fires were burning despite an established prohibition. A clear violation of the Wildfire Act.”
The property owner was charged $1,150 on both of their tickets.
On August 2, 100 Mile House RCMP were called to a property in the 108 Mile Ranch area.
“The individual was also being belligerent with firefighters,” Lamb says. “Police attended, where it was determined that the homeowner did have a fire during the current fire bans. The property owner was charged under the Wildfire Act.”
The 108 Mile Ranch resident was also fined $1,150 under the Wildfire Act.
RCMP, the BC Wildfire Service, and BC Conservation Office remind the public that there is ongoing Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 fire bans across the Cariboo Fire Centre.
