100 Mile House Mayor Maureen Pinkney will be seeking re-election.
Pinkney confirmed that she will be running to keep her job in October. She said that she still has some “unfinished business” in the District that she wants to see through with a second term.
“I think our community has a lot of ‘irons in the fire’ that are almost ready,” says Pinkney. “We’ve been working really hard with BC Rail and trying to save that. We have our hospital situation, and we’re getting industry up to Exeter Road.”
Pinkney added that the District has been making the connections, and she feels they are close to getting major steps in these projects underway or started.
“I also just love this town. I was born here, my parents were here when they were young kids, I just want to continue to help.”
Other concerns for Pinkney are finances and asset management. She says one of the biggest issues the community, and communities across the province, are facing is higher levels of government downloading onto municipalities, and it is only rising in costs on local governments.
With that though, Pinkney says she still feels the promise and possibility within 100 Mile House and the South Cariboo.
“I want to continue to get these projects to be happening, and I want to see our town thrive again. I believe that it can,” Pinkney says. “We have a lot of new people still moving here. It’s a great place to live, with an amazing outdoors. I want to be able to continue that work we’ve been doing and work for the people.”
Pinkney has served one term as mayor; she previously served as a councillor for two terms in the District of 100 Mile House.
