Handgun shaped lighter ignites police takedown

RCMP took down a man carrying a handgun in Quesnel’s downtown.

Police responded to a report of a man walking along Reid Street, brandishing the weapon at approximately 4:15 p.m.

The man was found and arrested by multiple officers, and upon a search of the man’s person, the ‘handgun’ was a black butane lighter shaped like the weapon.

“At first glance, these gun-shaped lighters have the appearance of handguns”, says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch in a statement.

“Police would like to remind the public of the safety risks associated to gun-shaped lighters.”
