BC Wildfire Service with the support of the Williams Lake Fire Department, will conduct a prescribed burn near White Road.
Burning is expected to begin as early as today (April 9) and may continue until April 24.
“The prescribed burn will take place south of Williams Lake on approximately 20 hectares of land adjacent to White Road,” Fire Information Officer Amanda Cullum said, “Smoke and flames will be visible from Williams Lake, Williams Lake First Nation, Coyote Rock Golf Course and to motorists on Highway 97.”
While ignition is underway traffic control will be on-site to ensure the safety of the public and firefighters and short delays may occur.
“Personnel will remain on-site and be on-site until there is no risk of the fire spreading beyond the perimeter and return daily until the fire is out,” Cullum said.
Looking at the current situation in the Cariboo Fire Centre, Cullum said since April first they had 5 new human caused fires, four are now out and one is under control.
“While the Cariboo Fire Centre does not currently have any open burning prohibitions we are reminding the public that if they are conducting any open burning to make sure safe practices are being followed and regulations are being met. We encourage the public to report any smoke that they observe through the BC Wildfire mobile app, or by calling 1-800-663-55-55, or star 55 55 on your cell phone.”
