Potentially Contentious Talk On Hold In North Cariboo

The elephant remains in the room and will until the next North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee meeting in April.

The City of Quesnel wants some changes to the current structure it has with the four northern Cariboo Regional District Directors.

A discussion on a terms of reference for the committee was on the agenda again last night but not for long.

CRD Area A Director Ted Armstrong once again successfully moved a motion to defer the issue…

“Last month I asked that it be deferred so I could talk to Janice and I only talked to her today on it and I have some concerns and thought well City staff have their report, probably CRD staff should make their report and probably we can blend the two.”

Quesnel City Councillors have expressed frustration over the voting system on the Joint Planning Committee where 7 Council members can vote in favour of a motion but it can still be defeated if two of the four northern CRD Directors vote against it.

There is also a desire on Council to expand the Committee’s scope to include other things such as the airport and victim services.
