Several school gymnasiums have been temporarily closed in the Quesnel School District following a scary incident at Dragon Lake elementary.
The District confirms that a light fixture, weighing approximately 50 pounds, fell earlier today from the ceiling of the gym at Dragon Lake.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Board Chair Tony Goulet says there was no one in the gym at the time, although he says the noise caused quite a stir.
As result of this incident however, all gyms in the district where these light fixtures have been installed have been closed until they have been inspected to ensure they are safe.
It is anticipated that the inspections will be completed over the next couple of days.
These light fixtures are only installed in some gyms and are not found in any other rooms.
Gyms have also been temporarily closed at Voyageur Elementary, Riverview Elementary, Lakeview Elementary, Red Bluff Lhtako Elementary, Kersley Elementary, Correlieu Secondary, Bouchie Lake Elementary, and Nazko Valley Elementary.
