The Board of Education for School District 27 will be entering into a 90 public consultation regarding the possible closure of Bridge Lake Elementary School.
Chair Tanya Guenther says it’s a never something that the Board enters into lightly.
“It’s always difficult decision to enter a process of considering the closure of a school,” she says.
“There are impacts to not only our students and the families of those students who attend our schools but the community.”
Guenther says since 2013 the Board has closed four schools due to District-wide enrollment and capacity issues.
She says student enrollment within the District has declined by as much as 50%.
The Board is expected to announce a decision on the schools future by the end of April.
