The solid waste management plan for the District of 100 Mile House seems to be working.

That was the takeaway at last night’s meeting of District Council as Councilor Dave Mingo reported that small changes have had a big impact on how solid waste is being handled in the region.

Using equipment to “tamp” full waste bins, is just one part of the plan showing an early return says Mingo:

It’s showing rewards, you know? Eighty-thousand litres of diesel in the South Cariboo alone. That’s one of the biggest successes that we’ve had.

The councilor also reported a steep decline in municipal solid waste as many items are being diverted from the landfill via the district’s recycling program.
