Sunday transit service falls through for Williams Lake but could come next year

Transit services for Sunday’s in Williams Lake has now ben put on hold for at least a year.

The announcement was made by City Council back on April 30th, where the annual operating agreement for 2024 and 2025 was presented.

Director of Municipal Services, Rob Warnock says it was too big of an ask for this year.

“Talking with the transit people there, usually they get about an ask for about 60,000 extra hours a year, and they had an ask this year of around 120,000 across BC,” says Warnock.

“so there were other municipalities that weren’t getting things also.”

Warnock added that Sunday services isn’t off the table, as they will revisit the request for next year.

The City’s budget that was set aside for this year will be kept in the budget for next year.

The agreement will largely remain the same as previous years, but an extra 150 annual service hours will be added to help keep transit on time.
