ICBC survey shows high percentage of drivers use winter tires.

A survey released by ICBC revealed 90 percent of participants in northern BC, which includes the Cariboo installed winter tires on their vehicle.

In a release from ICBC, they said 38 percent of survey respondents in BC witnessed a crash due to winter conditions last winter, with 21 percent having a near miss or close call while driving.

They’re working alongside police to remind drivers in northern BC to adjust their driving for the conditions that may be encountered.

Some tips include increasing your following distance, slowing down, and allowing for extra travel time.

ICBC said crashes caused by drivers going to fast for conditions increase by 188 percent in January for northern BC compared to October.

Participants also gave some of their concerns when driving in the winter, which include encountering icy roads, freezing rain, decreased visibility, along with human factors such as not knowing how to drive during winter.

More information on ICBC’s winter driving survey can be found on their website here.
