Fire Information Officer Madison Dahl said the Townsend Creek wildfire is currently measured at 921 hectares in size
“BC Wildfire Service has initial attack and unit crews on site. We are being assisted by local contract firefighters as well. You’re going to expect to see air tankers and helicopters throughout the day. We have a lot of heavy equipment and we do have structure protection on site. The fire is nearby to some outlying agricultural buildings but we have not lost any structures and we are performing aggressive structure protection.”
An evacuation Order was issued on Sunday by the Cariboo Regional District Operations Centre for 8 parcels in the Townsend Creek area and an Evacuation Alert was issued last night for 3 additional parcels adjacent to the western side of that order.
Dahl said the Branch Road wildfire west of Quesnel saw minimal growth overnight and is now 819 hectares and heavy equipment is onsite and assisting with suppression efforts.
“For the Branch Road wildfire we are utilizing planned ignitions and indirect fire suppression tactics as well as air support and heavy equipment.”
For the Green Mountain Wildfire South of Quesnel Dahl said is being held at 6 hectares and there was no noticeable growth yesterday or overnight.
She added that the infrastructure in the vicinity is not threatened, there is a guard around 100 percent of the fire, and the skimmers are no longer needed on that fire.
The Pelican Lake Wildfire 6 kilometres east of the community of Titetown is 15 hectares in size.
Dahl said they have wildfire service crews on the ground with aircraft supporting and today additional ground crews and heavy equipment will be on site.
A new wildfire was discovered last night.
Dahl said the teepee Lake fire is right on the edge of Kluskoil Lake Park in the Nazko Region and is 80 hectares.
Last night the CRD Emergency Operations Centre issued an Evacuation Alert for 160 parcels for the Teepee Lake fire area covering 63,022 hectares and is adjacent to the previously issued Pelican Lake Area and Branch Road Area Alerts.
