Pelican Lake Area Issued An Evacuation Alert

An Evacuation Alert was issued today (July 10) at 2:45 pm by the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre for the Pelican Lake Area including Titetown in the same region as the community of Nazko.

The CRD said this Evacuation Alert is for 686 parcels and covers 52,982 hectares.

Gerald Pinchbeck, a Public Information Officer with the CRD, says an estimated 73 people are impacted.
He says the alert is to help prepare residents to evacuate their property if it is later required for the purpose of public safety.
“We try to give residents as much notice as possible prior to an evacuation.   However, residents should expect limited notice due to changing conditions.”
Pinchbeck says there are a number of things people can do to be prepared.
“Check your home emergency plan, make sure you are signed up with our emergency notification system if you aren’t already, develop your grab and go kit with your essentials, medicine, insurance papers, eye glasses, cash and extra funds.  If you have pets make sure you have food for them as well.  Check in with your neighbours to make sure they are ready for an evacuation as well.”

The BC Wildfire Service estimates the Pelican Lake wildfire to be around 15 hectares in size and it is listed as “out of control.”
