Family Togetherness Is This Years National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations In Williams Lake

The Northern Shuswap Tribal Council invites everyone to join them in celebrating National Indigenous People’s Day.

Parade and Events Coordinator, Colleen McLaughlin explained what is planned for today.

“We start with the parade from 10 til 11 from First Avenue, going up Oliver Street to Boitanio Park. We have probably at least 20 participants in that. In the park the Chiefs will be speaking, as well we have Michael Moses, he’s our MC this year. Danaka Murphy is a story teller and Wayne Lucier from the Metis Association will be performing on stage.”

Mclaughlin said this would be a great opportunity for Non-Indigenous people to join in, learn, and celebrate the Indigenous culture and ancestory

“The banock belly competition that unfortunately had to be cancelled due to unforseen circumstances, but there will be 4 vendors who will have banock available. Lahal games will also be a part of the festivities in the park starting at 12:30,” McLaughlin added.
