Advance poll numbers for Pool referendum in Quesnel are up substantially over 2021

There appears to be a lot more interest in a pool referendum in Quesnel this time around, at least according to the early chances to vote.

The Cariboo Regional District says 527 people voted yesterday (Monday) in the second advance poll held at City Hall.

That is up from 403 in the 2nd advance poll when the referendum was defeated back in 2021.

600 people voted in the first advance pool this time around last Wednesday, bringing the total up to 1,127 so far.

That compares to just 656 at this time in 2021.

General voting day is this Saturday at City Hall, as well as at Barlow Creek School, Bouchie Lake School, and Ecole Red Bluff Lhtako Elementary.

Residents are being asked for authorization to borrow up to 35 million dollars for a major upgrade to the pool at the Quesnel Rec Centre.

The project includes the replacement of the existing leisure pool, hot tub, and saunas, as well as a new larger leisure pool featuring a lazy river, a water slide, and improvements to the change rooms.

A referendum on a pool upgrade back in June of 2021, that didn’t include the water slide, failed with 1,001 ‘no’ votes and 941 in favour.
