100 Mile House Fire-Recue attended a challenging grass fire

On April 17th 100 Mile Fire-Rescue were called out to a grass fire off Horse Lake Road.

The fire covered a couple acres of land on a local property, nearing a home and barn with animals, with crews facing a growing list of challenges.

“This firefighter sustained a minor injury to his knee climbing up and down the embankment deploying hoses and trying to suppress the fire.” says Roger Hollander, Fire Chief.

“It was a challenging fire to say the least for a number of reasons.”

Other issues faced included calling RCMP to handle a combative resident, trees and branches blocking large apparatus’ from getting to the fire, and more.

In terms of damage, Hollander noted that it’s tough to say, since they had to leave due to the uncooperative resident, but said some hay bales and fencing did catch fire.

Crews were on scene for around an hour, and the cause is still under investigation.

So far this year, Hollander says he’s see five to six human caused fires loose control due to stronger winds.
