Recreation Taxes Set for North Cariboo

Outside of the money for a new arena, taxpayers in the North Cariboo won’t be paying more for recreation in 2015.The North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee has approved a status quo Recreation and Parks budget.

It is worth more than 7.2 million dollars.

It doesn’t deal with capital requests from the Alex Fraser Park, Bouchie Lake, and Parkland Recreation Commissions.

That will be done following the Municipal election and if approved would come out of capital reserves and would be part of a budget amendment later on.

Quesnel City Councillor Shushil Thapar voted against the budget.

He says it is artificially created with the latest in a series of zero percent increases while at the same time eroding capital reserves.

A much talked about recreation plan for the entire North Cariboo was also bumped up.

Councillor Laurey-Anne Roodenburg…

The Committee unanimously agreed.

The motion also included funding of up to 75 thousand dollars.
