Quesnel Council Scolds CNC President

The President of the College of New Caledonia was on the hot seat at a special City Council meeting in Quesnel Monday night.

Henry Reiser and CNC Board Chair Vincent Prince were both invited to among other things address the controversial issue of going to pay parking at the Quesnel campus.

The message from all of Council was clear…that they want to be consulted on decisions in the future and to be a partner moving forward.

Councillor Laurey-Anne Roodenburg says it starts out with pay parking but she says there are bigger conversations that need to be had around programming.

She went on to say who knows what partnerships could have been developed around this issue.

Despite all of the protests, President Reiser let Council know that it was a done deal and not just for this year.

He says they now have a binding agreement with ImPark for five years.

Reiser says it was an operational matter than was tied to budget.

He says it will save approximately 30 thousand dollars in maintaining the parking lot and will also get a small percentage of the fees collected.

Moving forward Reiser did say that they hope to have better communication with the City and that the new Regional Principal Ross Morgan would play an active role in that.
