Williams Lake Fire Department reminds individuals of being fire smart after responding to a fire at the landfill

The Williams Lake Fire Department is reminding individuals of the importance of being fire smart after responding to a small fire at the landfill Wednesday night.

Deputy Fire Chief Rob Warnock, says the department responded quickly.

“Somebody working up at Sigurdson’s mill saw the smoke and they called us right away,” he says.

“We were there pretty quick and it was pretty small. It was some branches that were dumped off the side of the road there and someone lit them on fire.”

Warnock cautions how quickly a fire can spread.

He reminds individuals to use CSA approved campfires which are currently allowed within the City of Williams Lake, Quesnel, and 100 Mile House.

Campfires remain banned west of the Fraser River.
