Another Downtown Business Bites the Dust

She’s crafted jewelry for a number of years in her downtown shop, but today on the front window was a sign that another business will be biting the dust.

Darryl Desilets, the owner of The Bead Box, says after 11 years in the downtown area she will be closing her shop for good.

Desilets says businesses downtown are struggling and points blame squarely at Mayor Kerry Cook.

“I’ve been here 11 years and I don’t know how long she’s been mayor because I don’t care. I think she’s crappy at her job. She hasn’t done one thing that I know for this downtown core. She doesn’t even come down here, and if she did she would be horrified at what she would see.”

She adds the City has done nothing to address the downtown area that is slowly deteriorating.

“I’ve had people in Europe come in that live in countries that get just as much snow and they’re horrified at how dirty our streets are; they can’t believe it. And why? Because the Mayor and City Council can’t look out their window and see how bad it is down here. They’re killing the downtown core.”

Desilets says regardless of who will represent the City of Williams Lake in the near future, she does not see any changes as current representatives have created nothing but a mess.

She says The Bead Box will officially close on Oct. 15 and she will continue to craft jewelry at home.
