We are expecting some hot temperatures in the Cariboo today, but not quite hot enough to reach any daily records.
Lisa Irvin is a Meteorologist with Environment Canada…
“We’ve got a ridge of high pressure over the province for today and with that hot temperatures are in the forecast. We’ve got as high of 31 for Quesnel and a high of 30 for Williams Lake. But despite the heat we’re still quite a bit off the daily records. For Quesnel the previous record was 38.3 degrees and that was set back in 1941 and then for Williams Lake in order to reach a temperature record we have to get up to 31.7 degrees, set back in 1970.”
Irvin says we are still well above normal however and the usual high for this time of year is in the 24 to 25 degree range.
She says our overnight lows are also warmer than normal…
“The average low temperature for this time of year is around 10 degrees, so with nighttime lows only getting down to about 14-15 degrees for the tonight and 13-14 for Tuesday night, we are seeing overnight temperatures remaining a few degrees above normal.”
Irvin says temperatures will get more moderate as the week goes on…
“Peak temperatures will occur today, with temperatures moderating for the Tuesday-Wednesday time period and then this trough of relatively cooler air will settle into the province sort of mid to later in the week, so temperatures are going to continue dropping as we get towards this upcoming weekend, getting down towards highs of 21, 20, 19 or so as we get into the Friday, Saturday, Sunday time periods.”
Irvin says the long range forecast at this point is also calling for showers this coming weekend.
