RCMP executed a search warrant on two properties that resulted in dozens of firearms being seized.
In a statement, police say on May 15, the Cariboo-Chilcotin Crime Reduction Unit (CCCRU) seized around 50 firearms from the two properties. Police say two people were detained during the operation, but were later released pending further investigation.
In the searches, police seized multiple restricted and prohibited firearms, as well as ammunition and other related items.
“The seizure of more than four dozen firearms, ammunition, and other items marks a significant win for public safety,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP in the statement. “The investigation is ongoing, and any charges would be subject to approval by the appropriate Prosecution Service.”
The CCCRU conducted the warrants with the assistance of local police, Williams Lake RCMP, the Police Dog Service, Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit BC, and the Forensic Identification Section. Police say the North District Emergency Response Team was also called in to assist because of safety considerations and out of caution.
