Slash Burning Near Williams Lake Walmart No Need For Public Concern: WLFD

Controlled burns will be conducted near and above Wal-mart in Williams Lake from now through mid-April.

“We’ve been working with Pioneer Logging to come up with some terms of them burning some beetle infested piles and reducing the fuel load up on the hillside,” says Williams Lake Deputy Fire Chief Rob Warnock.

“So we’ve come up with a plan and they’ll do  anywhere from 2-4 piles at once on days that the venting index is good.”

Warnock adds that the Fire Department has ensured that safety measures have been put in place.

“Once Pioneer is able to start burning they’re going to give us a call so we know,” he says.

“This is why we’re putting out a media release, getting it on the radio, getting it in the paper so everybody will know what’s going on. Last time this happened we had several calls on their burning so we just want to get away from that and just let everybody know to relax and we know what’s going on and we’ve worked with them to make sure this is going to work.”
