The Quesnel Fire Department Needs Your Help

Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier says a lot of the fire hydrants are buried in snowbanks right now and while the City Crews are working hard to free them, there are a lot…

“I would ask as a personal favor if there is a hydrant on your property or across your property and it’s still under snow if you could help us out in locating those hydrants and start to dig them out.”

Gauthier says in the event of a fire they would lose valuable time if they can’t find the hydrant and have to dig it out themselves.

He says there are probably close to a thousand fire hydrants in Quesnel.

On another note, Gauthier says they had to come up with a backup plan to fight potential fires during the snowstorm.

He says the City and Emcon Services, the highways contractor for the North Cariboo, were on call to clear the road if need be.

Gauthier says that too would have taken up valuable time however.

He says he’s not sure how many volunteers would have been able to make it through the snow to the fire hall as well.
