Mt Timothy To Open This Season Following Fundraising Success

Mt. Timothy Ski Area will likely open on December 15 following incredible generosity of supporters far and wide.

“Ecstatic really,” says President of the Board of Directors, Ryan Wonnacott on the news that they have surpassed their initial goal of raising $50,000 allowing them to move full-steam ahead on preparing for the upcoming ski and snowboard season.

“We’re extremely happy and impressed with the community rallying around us, supporting us. Mt. Timothy has been around for 30 years, this is actually our 30th anniversary so we’re looking to opening again this year.”

To date, the Society has raised $86,496 in pledges, contributions, and donations.

“I’m not surprised that we have so many supporters out there. What I am surprised about is the speed and the quickness how much everybody has contributed to the cause and helped us out. Definitely impressed by the large amount of money in a short amount of time,” says Wonnacott.

One of the first things the funds according to Wonnacott will be used for is to pay back local businesses that have been supporting them for so long, as well as hiring staff to get them in shape for the season.

Wonnacott says they will continue to accept additional fundraising support throughout the year.

  • The Society will be holding a volunteer work weekend up at the hill on Saturday and Sunday October 21 and 22 beginning at 9:00 am. Everyone is welcome to come up and help get the hill ready for the upcoming season. Work will focus on brushing and firewood for the lodge – please bring your equipment and a lunch and stop in to fill out a volunteer form at the cabin.
  • The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Mt. Timothy Ski Society, is scheduled for Sunday, November 5 at 6:00pm in the Gibraltar Room at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex in Williams Lake. The meeting will follow the Ski Swap hosted by the Timberland Alpine Ski Society that will occur earlier in the day. The AGM is open to all Society members (season pass holders from 2016/17 or 2017/18), and voting privileges extend to all members 19 years or older. Elections will be held for four (4) volunteer, two-year Director positions. Any member in good standing, 19 years or older, may stand for election.
