Hawks sweep Cougars to take BCMML final

The magical run for the Cariboo Cougars came to an end on Saturday after losing 9-4 on Saturday to the Valley West Hawks getting swept two games to none.

In the first, the Cougars jumped out to a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Reid Perepeluk and Tyler Ho.

Ben Evanish replied for the Hawks to keep it a one goal game after 20 minutes.

The Hawks cranked up the heat in the second scoring three unanswered goals from Josh Bruce, Ilijah Colina and James Malm giving themselves a 4-2 lead after two.

In the third, Perepeluk and Ethan O’Rourke would even up the score at 4 early in the third until Malm broke open the game by netting two more goals for a 6-4 lead.

VW potted three more in the period from Christian Bosa, Mitch Savage and Kabir Gill.

The Hawks now move on to Pacific Regionals against the Alberta champion for the right to host the region at the Telus Cup.

Williams Lake product Trey Thomas had one assist in the loss while New Hazleton native Joel Patsey also picked up a helper.
