This year’s South Cariboo Health Foundation’s Starry Nights Light Up event had a different look and feel to it.
On Saturday (November 15th) Public Relations and Fundraiser Coordinator Danielle Sabiston said it was a huge success.
“We opened the doors of the 100 Mile District General Hospital at 4:30 and had a large number of people of all ages come through to enjoy all kinds of indoor activities. We had the 100 Mile House Wranglers greeting people and helping kids make crafts. Santa was also there handing out candy canes and posing for pictures.”
Sabiston said just prior to 6 o’clock they moved everybody outside to the front of the hospital which gave Fischer Place and Millsite the opportunity to have their residents come and help with the countdown to the lights being lit up.
“I think the public really enjoyed it. Holding it separately from the 100 Mile House Santa Claus Parade and having an actual time for light up, where you’re not standing out in the cold waiting, was a big part of that. The weather cooperated for this event, we had a little bit of snow on the ground, mild temperatures, it was just perfect.”
Sabiston added by doing the Starry Nights Light Up differently this year, it was easier for everyone to plan to come out and to get families and the public all revved up for this Friday (November 21) when our Santa Parade happens.
“It worked out really well. It was easier to set up, easier to plan and easier for the public to participate and that’s a huge one,”Sabiston said, “We’re doing this for the public, the community, and you like to see everyone out celebrating it.”
The lights will stay on until the very end of January for everyone to enjoy as they drive by the 100 Mile District General Hospital.
