City of Williams Lake looks at 0% tax increases for 2016

Difficult economic times are not stopping the City of Williams Lake from looking ahead to next year’s budget with zero percent tax increases.

Scott Nelson, Councillor and Chair of the Finance Committee, says he’s confident that the recommendation, which was unanimously adopted by Council, will fall through.

“We believe with the restructuring that Council did earlier on in 2015 that will save about 8 to 9 million dollars over a 10 year period,” he said.

“With that restructuring and cost savings and obliviously shooting for a zero percent tax increase for 2016, we’re going to able to achieve the economic goals that we need to turn our community around.”

The budget meetings which are open to the public, begin a half hour prior to the regular Council meetings.
